Local families know how important swimming lessons are, and right now, swim teachers are in high demand.

To help support the growing need for Learn to Swim teachers across the region, AUSTSWIM is running a Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course at Bay and Basin Leisure Centre on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May 2026.

The course is an opportunity for local people to begin a rewarding career in aquatics, helping children and families develop confidence, water safety awareness and swimming skills.

It is particularly suited to people returning to work, those seeking extra income, and anyone who wants a flexible job that can fit around study, sport or family commitments.

Learn to Swim teaching can offer flexible shift opportunities, including school-friendly hours such as 9.00am - 12.00pm, as well as after-school shifts from 4.00pm - 6.30pm. This makes it an appealing option for people wanting meaningful work without sacrificing work-life balance.

The AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety course is the foundational accreditation for people who want to teach swimming and water safety. The course includes self-paced online learning, a two-day face-to-face workshop, practical assessment tasks and workplace training.

AUSTSWIM has been the national organisation for the teaching of swimming and water safety since 1979, and its licence is recognised as an industry standard for swimming and water safety teachers.

For anyone looking for flexible, meaningful work, becoming a swim teacher is a chance to earn income while making a genuine difference in the community.
