More than 300 people have had their say on how best to honour beloved Ulladulla community champion Margaret "Margie" Sheedy, with an overwhelming majority supporting the name Margie Sheedy Sea Pool for the Ulladulla Sea Pool.
The consultation was launched following a Council resolution to identify a fitting tribute to Margie, who passed away in March 2024. A recipient of the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM), Margie was widely admired for her tireless fundraising and her passionate support for both local theatre and the Ulladulla Sea Pool.
Acting Mayor Peter Wilkins said the strong community response reflected the profound impact Margie had on the Milton Ulladulla community.
"Margie was a vibrant and much-loved member of our community whose dedication, generosity and enthusiasm touched countless lives," Cr Wilkins said.
"The response to this consultation shows just how highly regarded she remains and how strongly people feel about recognising her legacy in a meaningful and lasting way,” he said.
"With very few recreational places named after inspirational women in the Shoalhaven, it's fitting that we ensure Margie is honoured and remembered in a meaningful way."
Margie's family said they were deeply touched by the community's response and delighted to see her legacy recognised in a place she loved so dearly.
New signage has now been installed at the sea pool which opened for the spring swim season on 1 September 2026.
