Become a pool lifeguard

Pool lifeguarding is a fun, flexible and dynamic job for people in all parts of Australia. For a lot of people, it is also their point of entry for a career in the aquatics industry leading to a range of employment opportunities within the industry.

Pool lifeguards often take on a much greater responsibility than simply supervising water space. As well as identifying potential risk factors and taking steps to reduce those risks, lifeguards act as positive role models in an effort to build strong people, strong families and strong communities within the aquatic industry.

What skills/training do I need for employment?

  • Step 1: RLSSA Bronze Medallion
  • Step 2: First Aid Certificate
  • Step 3: RLSSA Pool Lifeguard

Royal Lifesaving Australia offers all three (3) of these qualifications together in a training package known as the ‘Lifeguard Skill Set.’

What is involved in the lifeguard training?
